但近代以無頭吉他取得商業成功的品牌，毫無疑問絕對是由 Ned Steinberger 創立的Steinberger，無頭吉他的出現亦推動了電吉他產業的變革。
1979年，Steinberger創立於紐約布魯克林。創辦人Ned Steinberger的本業是家具的設計師，跨領域的背景，讓他跳出傳統的框框，重新思考吉他及樂器的本質，而創造出他們獨特的無頭吉他。
無頭吉他的優勢
1. 重量
無頭吉他的重點就在於少了琴頭和弦紐後，整把琴的重量能夠顯著的減輕，一般吉他的重量大約在3-5公斤左右，而的重量可以達到在2.2公斤附近。對需要在舞台上長時間彈奏多首歌的演出樂手，無頭吉他是十分友善，背起來亦很舒適。

3. 調音和音準

調整音高的弦紐會和琴橋設計在一起。
無頭琴弦紐能夠更細緻的調整音準，傳統弦紐齒輪比大約在15~18:1，而無頭琴弦紐約在30~40:1。另外，在無頭吉他上，因為琴弦從琴橋穿過上弦枕(nut)，到固定它們的部份以直線的方式運行令音更準。
