What is it like to learn the violin, viola, or cello as an adult? Adult violin learning, to a certain extent, is a cross between ''learning a new language'' and ''learning body coordination. If you can understand and accept these two conditions, then you can go a long way! But that means you have to resist the embarrassment of actually starting from the beginning, and you need to be prepared to do more repetitive work than you expect.

In the last issue, we have mentioned the points that we tend to ignore about adult violin learning. In this issue, we will focus on finding a suitable violin teacher and how to choose an instrument.

Finding a teacher

You can probably learn a lot about how to play the violin from the Internet, But I would recommend finding a teacher so that someone can hear you play in person and help adjust your practice routine according to your particular needs. Inevitably, different students develop different issues with holding the instrument, etc. and those issues require some tweaking from a teacher.

Finding an instrument

It's important to understand that having a well-functioning, good-sounding instrument is essential to your learning, as a beginner. A bad violin is a lot like a bad computer: it will not do what you ask it to do; it will require a million workarounds that cause you to lose time and concentration, and in the end, you'll feel frustrated and want to chuck it out a window.

In all likelihood, you will need help finding an instrument that will serve you, whether it involves fixing up a violin already in your possession, renting, or buying a new one.

So how do we choose a suitable violin?

What price of the violin is suitable for beginners to buy? There are many introductions on this kind of issue on the Internet. Because everyone needs different types, you need to find a suitable violin according to your own needs. Of course, budget is one of the most important considerations.
First of all, you must first understand your own situation, and then find a piano that suits your price. Just like if you want to buy a car, you must first understand which brand of car you want to buy, what color car you want, how big a car ( How many seats, or how much horsepower), what equipment is needed in the car, budget, etc. This is just an example.

There are many aspects to consider when buying a violin. The following are simple issues that need to be understood and paid attention to when buying a violin. This is just a general principle, and the combination of which needs to be determined by consumers:

① Budget (a few hundred mechanical pianos, or thousands of handmade pianos).

②Handmade qin (old qin – sometimes known as guqin, new qin), machine qin (in mass production, the price will be much cheaper), or second-hand qin (old qin, there is a distinction here: handmade qin, machine qin).

③ The origin of the piano (there are all over the world, but now China has the most pianos, and the price is different. There are also some Italian pianos (that is, the domestic pianos are labeled with Italian labels and sold at high prices).

④The color of the piano (brown, red, golden yellow, antique, etc.. Choose it at one time, otherwise the color needs to be repainted, and the cost will be very high).

⑤The equipment of the piano (there are many choices here, and the materials are usually not cheap; some accessories with decorative beads or carvings are also different in price. It is a one-time choice, and it is more troublesome to replace later).

⑥Strings – The types are more diverse. These are just assemblies, like cosmetics or hand accessories. (The strings can be replaced by yourself in the later stage)

⑦Piano Case – There are many choices of styles. (The problem of the piano case can be ignored, and you can replace it later)

⑧Bow – This is another item that needs to be discussed in detail. The price of a good bow is not inferior to that of a good violin, but usually, these are sold as a whole set, (depending on the personal situation at that time), you can replace it later).

If you are a beginner and don't know whether you will continue to learn the piano, it is recommended that you buy a cheaper piano (recommended to buy a handmade piano at a general price), maybe you (or some people) will think that it will damage your ears The sound quality or the quality of the sound quality. After all, when the two (money and quality) cannot be considered, you can only measure the one that best meets your needs, right? You can't have both fish and bear's paw! Take the lighter of the two.

Or when you feel that your piano skills have advanced greatly and you want to take it to the next level, you may be able to consider buying a better piano at this time. If you feel that the above considerations are redundant, then choose according to your favorite. Maybe buying a good violin will encourage you, and it may not be necessary to make yourself work harder!

If you are still undecided on what price to buy, it is recommended to buy a handmade piano (factory handmade piano) that costs thousands of yuan. It is not too late to change the handmade piano later. The mechanical piano is not recommended for beginners.

However, the quality of the violin is a matter of opinion, and it is also very subjective. A good piano is hard to come by, which means that you can slowly find a piano that suits your liking and the price is right.

According to different violin learners, the violin is divided into several sizes, as shown in the figure below

The choice of violin size is mainly based on height and arm length. The following is a comparison table of violin size and height and arm length
